Charles O. Boamah is a highly regarded accountant and development banker with extensive experience in the management of financial institutions and development banks. He currently provides independent strategic advisory services. Charles was previously with the African Development Bank (the AfDB) where he held various senior executive roles including serving as AfDB’s Senior Vice President, First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and as Controller. At AfDB, Charles’ responsibilities covered the administration, finances, and operations of the AfDB Group. He actively participated in AfDB’s last three capital increases, playing a leadership role in the most recent October 2019 capital raise. Charles also actively participated in and/ or led seven African Development Fund replenishment cycles. Charles served under three Presidents of the Bank.

Prior to AfDB Charles worked with Wells Fargo Bank (formerly First Interstate Bancorp) where, as Vice-President of Accounting Policy and Research, he provided guidance to deal teams in the structuring of complex transactions. His professional career started with Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC) where he provided audit and mergers and acquisition support services to companies in the banking, insurance, manufacturing, and retail industries. His portfolio of clients also included municipalities and several state-owned enterprises. Charles serves on various boards including the Board of Africa50, (a continental infrastructure development finance entity) and the International Governing Board of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences. He is also a member of the Transformation Leadership Panel (a continental policy and advocacy body).

Charles holds a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Business Administration from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of California, USA.
